Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday, during which the two leaders discussed strengthening Nepal-China relations and enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors.
Oli Objects to India-China Deal on Lipulekh
During the talks, Prime Minister Oli expressed strong objection to the agreement between India and China to use Lipulekh as a trade route. Nepal claims Lipulekh as its territory under the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, while India has dismissed Nepal’s claim as “neither justified nor based on historical facts.”
Quoting Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat stated, “Oli clearly raised Nepal’s objection to the Lipulekh agreement and emphasized that all territories east of the Mahakali belong to Nepal.”
China-Nepal to Strengthen Mechanisms
Both leaders agreed to mobilize bilateral mechanisms to further deepen cooperation and friendly ties between the two nations, the Secretariat confirmed.
Prime Minister Oli, leading a 23-member delegation, will return to Nepal on Wednesday after completing his official visit to China.
